HEG Borneo 2009 Leaders

Herefordshire Expedition Group (HEG) is an association of local professionals who help young people fulfil their potential through challenging expeditions. The group, formed in May 2005 and based in the city of Hereford, England, has already received support from Herefordshire Council and Connexions.

HEG has a team of experienced leaders and support staff who will work to ensure the expedition to Borneo is safe, challenging and enjoyable.  Everyone involved directly with the team will have had a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

HEG has commissioned Raleigh International to provide the necessary resources and in-country expertise whilst the team are in Borneo. Raleigh International is a youth development charity, which inspires people from all backgrounds and nationalities to discover their full potential by working together on challenging environmental and community projects around the world. Raleigh have ben working in Borneo since 2002 and they maintain a fully staffed Field Office in Sabah.

Andy Preedy

Assistant Youth Service Manager, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Officer and Youth Worker in Herefordshire for over 20 years. Also a mountain leader and member of Longtown Mountain Rescue Team.

 
Stuart McFarlane
 
Team Manager within the Safeguarding and Assessment service of Herefordshire Council's Children and Young People's Directorate, Mountain Leader (Summer) and Youth Worker in Herefordshire for over 20 years.
 

Pippa Hart

Has worked with young people for 12 years as a Playworker/Youth Worker and community artist. Currently a Community Youth Worker for Herefordshire Youth Service.

 

Bec Wallis

Has worked in residential care for the past 7 years and has a Youth Work level 1 qualification.  Bec has also recently completed the level 2 qualification. She has worked as an Information and Support Worker for Ledbury Youth First and is a volunteer for Herefordshire Youth Service.

Louis English

A student at Herefordshire Sixth Form College, Louis is studying Archaeology, Geology and Biology.  A Young Leader on the 2009 Borneo Expedition, Louis took part in the Borneo 2007 Expedition as a young person and he is looking forward to using the knowledge gained from that experience to aid the 2009 group in getting to Borneo and also whilst out there.

Nick James-Williams

Outdoor Education Development Worker for Herefordshire Youth Service. A qualified First Aid Trainer, Nick holds numerous Instructor Qualifications, a HND in Adventurous Activity Management and has travelled throughout Europe and Asia.

Lawrence Toye

Took part in the Borneo 2007 expedition. Studying 2nd Year National Diploma in Performing Arts at Hereford Art College. Currently holds Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Bronze and Silver qualifications.
